BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Leon Haslam extends contract with team for 2012 season – WSBK news
BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Leon Haslam has received an extension to his present contract with his team for the 2012 World Superbike season.
Haslam said, “I am really happy to continue the relationship with BMW Motorrad, and I have full faith in the project. I cannot wait for the next year to start and to fight for the World Championship again. Now I can fully focus on the final three rounds
of the 2011 season. I am optimistic to finish the year on a high.”
The British rider is going through his debut season with the BMW factory WSBK team. In the 2010 season, Haslam was racing as a teammate to Max Biaggi in the Suzuki Alstare team. Since his return to the WSBK series in 2009, he has moved to three different
teams.
After a long struggle with a powerful S1000RR, the British rider is working hard to compete for the title in the series. So far, BMW have not compelled themselves as a challenger for title but have been testing and resetting their developments for a win.
However, Leon Haslam has still managed podium finishes twice in Phillip Island and Monza. At present, he is fifth with 176 points after the German WSBK event held at Nurburgring in the world championship.
After a strong effort on testing the new electronics and different setups, he is keen to work on the BMW S1000RR. Though the bike is yet to be tamed but it has started showing good results. Now he is determined that through the 2012 season he will be more
successful with the emerging BMW Motorrad Motorsport team.
BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director, Bernhard Gobmeier also said, “We're delighted to be working with Leon again next season. Leon has impressed us from day one. We value and share his ambition, passion and absolute will to win. I'm in no doubt that we'll be
able to achieve our goals together.”
At present, the teammate for Haslam is Troy Corser but according to rumours, veteran Marco Melandri might be joining the BMW squad. There has been no confirmation from the team’s side about this yet.
