BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Leon Haslam looking to extend his contract with team – WSBK news
BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Leon Haslam has revealed his wish to extend his contract with the team for the 2012 World Superbike season.
The British rider has an aim to complete his task initiated with the BMW squad. The team and the rider have put in a strong effort to mould and enhance the bike as a race title winner in the class.
Haslam said, “I really want to finish what I started with BMW so the plan is to re-sign with them in the next few weeks. I have offers from pretty much every other team in the paddock but I think that is the right way to go.”
Since his start with the BMW factory team in WSBK, he is working to take the bike on to the next level of performance. Earlier in the season, he has been claiming that the sheer power of the 1000cc engine results in a massive wheel spin.
Therefore, the engineers have been working to break through the problem with new upgraded electronics. The step was taken during the Silverstone event.
Haslam added, “We have backed almost everything off to see what we can do with it and it is now really paying off. I ran good lap times in qualifying, albeit on race tyres as we can't get the sticky tyres to work, and my pace would have been enough for second
in race one had I not gone off.”
After a remarkable improved performance in the German event at Nurburgring, he scored a decent position on the grid. However, he could not finish the race on podium but still it was a step forward with the electronics. He was facing a trouble in heating
up his tyres to adequate temperatures.
Earlier in the season, he also scored two podium finishes- one at Phillip Island and the other one at Monza. Though he has not yet been through his best season but without any win he is ranking at the fifth position in the World Superbike Championship points’
table.
Despite the fact that Haslam has offers to race for other squads as well, he seems inclined towards his team for the 2012 season.
