BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Leon Haslam says tough to control S1000RR power – WSBK news
BMW Motorrad Motorsports rider Leon Haslam has claimed that it is hard to control the sheer power of his BMW S1000RR.
Haslam said the most important aspect to focus is to tune the bike better in order to win races in the season ahead.
Haslam said, “The problems stem from a number of things. When make the bike stable we can get on the podium as we did in Monza and Phillip Island and we can also finish top five too. That's not where we want to be as its not amazing but the thing is stable.”
The Brit is facing a problem with the raw power of his BMW’s power plant. It delivers huge amount of horsepower, which forces the bike to go in power slides. Eventually it makes the bike unstable and loses grip to speed up.
The Brit is of the opinion that the bike can be controlled with high-tech electronics to deliver maximum power on to the track. The team is struggling through every race weekend to sort out the issue and come with a race winning setup. The team is also trying
new gadgets for improvements.
Haslam said, “When we've tried to make the bike better it has become unstable, hence the ninth and tenth places - we are struggling to even compete. With me knowing the track, we are going to work from a stable package and see where we can go with it.”
The Brit is in his first season with the BMW team. At present, he holds the fifth position in the World Superbike Championship points table. Meanwhile, his teammate Troy Corser is at the 15th position on points table.
Haslam also said that he and his team are working hard, conducting test runs but the difficult part is to reproduce those performance results during the race.
The worrying thing for BMW is that the bike is very responsive to temperature variations. A setup tuned in a specific temperature is spoiled by change of temperatures. Haslam looks forward to do a good job at his home event. Let’s see how he manages his
race.
