BMW PGA Championship: Ernie Els will play the second European Tour event in the current week
Ernie Els is in the field of the BMW PGA Championship and desires to record some impressive scores at the European Tour event.
The 42-year-old South African has only played one tournament on the European Tour in the current season and will be playing the second in the current week.
The field has been set and will tee off on May 24. The event will finish on Sunday, May 27, 2012. The selected venue of mega event is the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood are also in the field. The tournament is expected to stage a tough battle, as it is going to feature most of the big names in England.
Els knows what it takes to be impressive against strong contenders. Speaking to the media, he said he needs a lot of commitment to his game. Only high scores can benefit him in such a tough field.
"That wasn't the plan," said Els. "He didn't hit that bad a shot. The penalty was quite severe. Criticism is always tough to take, but if it's granted in the right way I'm fine with it”.
“The way it was put forward the first year was a little childish (he hated the fact it was played out in the media rather than in private), but hopefully we'll have more smiling faces from the players this year”.
He added:
“You make changes on a great course like the West Course, people are going to not like it. That's part of what we do as designers, but I think we've passed that bridge”.
Els has only played the Volvo Golf Champions on the European Tour in January. He recorded the runner-up position there and scored a 12-under 280.
This was his best finish in the current season. He has also played twelve tournaments on the PGA Tour and finished among top-25 players.
He is confident and aiming high to repeat the Volvo Golf Champions scoring in England. He will be facing tough rivals at the BMW PGA Championship. He has to deliver his best and score consistently throughout the four days.
