BMW PGA Championship: Luke Donald moves up, tied for the second position
Luke Donald is moving up, as he finished the second round of the BMW PGA Championship on the second position.
The 34-year-old English golfer scored an 8-under 136 after two rounds. He has displayed an amazing performance on his home course, the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
He shot a 4-under 68 in the first round of the tournament. He shot seven impressive birdies and just two bogeys on Thursday. He tied for the eighth position in the first round and gained many opportunities to reach among the toppers from the second round.
Then in the second round on Friday, he shot five birdies, one long yard eagle on par-5 12th hole and three bogeys in total. He shot a 4-under 68 again and tied for the second position with David Drysdale.
Drysdale scored 66 and 70 in the two rounds, respectively. He is also playing and competing well for the title.
"I'm feeling strong on the greens," Donald said. "Every time I've had opportunities, I'm seeing the line and got the speed down and making some good putts".
He added:
"I hear this every week. A situation like at The Players where Rory missed the cut (a fortnight ago) and I had the opportunity, then I might focus on it. But to be honest, the focus is always to try to win the tournament".
He is close to a victory. He also has high plans to defeat his biggest rival, Rory McIlroy, who currently holds the world highest-ranked position.
McIlroy grabbed the dominating position from the English Donald. Now, Donald is striving hard to win back the number one position by winning the title.
“Hopefully,” Donald said Wednesday, raising his hand, “it will be me”.
McIlroy faced elimination from the European Tour event. He was unable to make the cut and now planning to improve his putting and score. He scored a devastating 9-over 153.
Due to McIlroy’s elimination, the tournament is now less competitive. Now, Donald also has abundant opportunities, since after two rounds, he has recorded impressive scores on his home course.
Donald only needs to be consistent in scoring till the end of the tournament.
