BMW PGA Championship round two latest
There's still a way to go for Danny Willett, but so far the young Yorkshireman who stole the show at Wentworth on the opening day continues to look dangerous, even if he currently shares the lead in today's second round with Luke Donald.
The 22-year-old Willett, surprise leader in the BMW PGA Championship after yesterday's first round, started this afternoon's play in similar fashion, the lad from Rotherham making three birdies in the opening four holes before bogeying the 5th. But since that opening powerplay Willett has dropped four shots, allowing the pursuing pack to catch him up - Willett and Donald are both currently on six-under-par, though Willett still has six holes to play.
Several English players are in the mix, Donald and defending champion Paul Casey both shooting three-under today - that sees Casey on four-under for the competition, and tied for fifth place with another Englishman, Chris Wood, who has completed all 18 holes. Ross Fisher is on the same score, but has only completed 11 holes. Scotland's Richie Ramsay was amongst various others tied on the same score, Ramsay having only played as far as the 5th.
Ernie Els hit three bogeys in five holes to lose ground on the leaderboard - he's currently tied for 15th place on two-under, having played 11 holes. Padraig Harrington was on the same score after hitting a fairly steady round, two early birdies on the 2nd and 4th keeping him two-under, both for the day and the competition.
A poor day's play for Lee Westwood means the 37-year-old may not progress beyond this round. The Englishman who moved up to No. 3 in the world this week could conceivably miss the cut after finishing three-over-74, two-over in total, with a round that included four bogeys and a treble bogey on the 15th.
Another top player whose fate hangs in the balance is Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy. The mercurial 21-year-old came home two-under today, one-over for the competition, after a round that included five birdies, a bogey and a double on the 15th.
Charl Schwartzel ended the day's play on level par today to finish one-under, the South African carding four birdies only to wipe them out with an equal number of bogeys.
Italy's Matteo Manassero is currently on level-par after 11 holes, the former British Amateur Champion carding a birdie and a bogey to stay on an even keel. Manassero's score saw him on an equal footing with the vastly experienced Colin Montgomerie, the Scot carding four birdies and a couple of bogeys to finish two-under today, and par for the tournament.
One player sure to miss the cut is Ian Poulter, after yesterday's seven-over opening. Nonetheless, Poulter at least managed to keep things respectable today, hitting four bogeys and an equal number of birdies to stay on par for the day.
