I am looking to purchase a BMW 328 (2007 or 2008) coupe or sedan and was wondering if the xi (AWD) is worth the extra cost and weight. I would like to hear from people who have or have driven either version and their experience in th snow and otherwise. I would be purchasing good winter tires with a RWD of course...thanks!

  1. Personally, i would go with the 328i with the sport, premium, cold packages.  Since you will get good winter tires, you'll love to have the sport suspension and sticky tires in the summer.  The xi with the sport does not have the sport suspension.

I drive a 2008 328xi now sport, prem.  Had a 328i coupe (my fav), and before that a 328i sport, prem, nav, everything (second fav).  I've also had a bunch of 328xi's with just prem, cold.  You can't beat the rwd with the sport package.

These are all demo's, i'm not constantly trading in cars.

  2. if it snows alot in the winter which i take it that it does if your in canada i would def go with awd. it kicks butt in the snow! also it handles so much better and is safer. didnt have a bmw but had an audi a4 awd and that thing was a tank. couldnt get her stuck. when everyone else in my apt complex was digging themselves out of the parking lot, i just jumped in my car and took off. they were so pissed.

rear wheel WILL and DOES suck in the snow and even in the rain at times. doesnt matter what kind of tires you have. youll wind up trying to add weight in the trunk just to get more traction. dont go that route. go awd or nothing at all.
