Question:

BMW X3 air con belt slipping off?

The air con belt on my x3 came off (therefore, the air con stops working). I put the belt back on and it has since slipped off again.

The belt looks ok, though i expect it is slightly stretched by age.

Can any one tell me where or how to adjust / tighten the belt pulley/s.

  1. If U can afford X3 then U can afford to have checked in garage, could be the pulley wheels not aligned and may require more than just re-tension

  2. The belt should be replaced and the new belt retensioned. there should not be no more than about 25mm of flex in the belt when tensioned. The belt may have come off because of age or another problem I would take it to my trusted BMW repairer as this could be a factory fault ?

  3. what type of belt is it?..v-belt/ribbed belt?...there may be a spring loaded tentioner that is at fault.....or possably a pully bearing on the way out that could be forcing it off...have it looked at asap before it wraps round somthing and causes massive damage
