BMWs ordered for Olympic VIPs – London Olympics 2012
It has recently been revealed that a total of 4,000 completely new BMW cars have been ordered by the London Organising Committee for Olympic Games.
The purpose of these cars is to provide an escort to the dignitaries as well as officials who will be present at the Olympic Games this year in London.
This is in stark contrast to what has been preached by the Olympic organisers who have been advocating the use of public transport and an individual’s own two feet in order to get to the Olympic venues. The Olympic organisers have been encouraging no use
of private cars in order to reduce the expected number of vehicles on the road that is highly suspected to increase traffic congestion during the time of the Olympic Games.
Member of the London Assembly for the Green Party, Jenny Jones said, “Most of the athletes will be staying in the Olympic Village and won’t need to travel to events, so the BMWs are really for the politicians and dignitaries. Four thousand vehicles seem
lunatic when we have such a good public transport system. I can understand a few officials need secure transport but 4,000? Shipping new cars in from Germany is also extremely bad news for the environment.”
Other than reducing the amount of traffic on the roads during the time period of the Olympic Games, the London Olympic organisers have also been advocating a ‘Green Olympics’. The Olympic Games this year are allegedly going to be the greenest Olympic Games
the world has ever seen. However, the importing of thousands of BMWs seems to go against the concept put forward by the organisers.
The VIPs who will be making their presence at the Olympic Games will each be provided with their very own BMWs. Not only that, they will also be accompanied by a private chauffeur. In all, there are a total of 250 VIPs that are expected to attend the Olympic
Games. The BMWs will be with the VIPs for all the days of the Olympic Games.
