BMX Street pro Garrett Reynolds joins the Red Bull team
Professional BMX rider Garrett Reynolds from America is the latest addition to the prestigious Red Bull BMX team.
The announcement was made by Red Bull on the online social-networking and micro-blogging website Twitter.
"Garrett Reynolds joins Red Bull just in time for X Games,” tweeted Red Bull.
Reporters tried to reach Reynolds for comment after coming across Red Bull’s tweet, but the action sports athlete was still fast asleep and therefore remained unavailable.
The 21-year-old New Jersey-based rider has been a regular at X Games since 2007, competing in both BMX Part and Street event. Even though his park skills are quite impressive, it is his street prowess that really sets him apart from the rest of the park.
Considered to be the biggest stage of action sports, X Games attracts the best athletes from around the globe to compete for the prestigious medals, putting on their best performances and pushing the limits to put on a show for a global audience.
Reynolds made his debut in BMX Park at the ESPN-hosted mega-event in 2007 and immediately caught the attention of the critics. Despite a commendable effort, he barely missed out on the podium after finishing in fourth place.
Returning to X Games in 2008, he skipped the park event and instead competed in the street event. The shift in focus worked out great for him as he completely dominated the contest and took home his first-ever X Games gold medal.
The American BMX rider competed in both street and park events in the X Games that followed. While he continued to struggle to find a place on the podium in park events, he maintained his spot on the top of the podium in all his X Games Street appearances.
Garrett is all set to dominate the X Games Street contest for the fifth year in a row. He will be up against plenty of veterans and fresh faces who are be expected to put up a strong fight and do anything to try and replace him on the top of the podium.
X Games Street Final is scheduled to go down at Event Deck in L.A. Live on Friday, June 29.
