BMX Versus Mountain Bike Question?

Question

Which is faster? Obviously it depends on how fast the person is pedaling, but which do you think is built for speed or naturally faster?Keep in mind this is only talking about street-concrete riding, not off-road.

Im not sure to be honest...Ive ridden BMX for a year now and while i ride to hit up a spot i dusted a few ppl on mountain and road bikes...Thats the power of sealed hubs and my legs

To second some of the answers already given, any bike with gears is going to have a mechanical advantage over a bike a single speed bike.  In addition, the larger the diameter of the wheel, the easier the bike is going to roll.  If you add to that a smoother, higher pressure tire (like a road or hybrid bike), your bike will roll even easier allowing you more speed with from the same amount of work.

Why don't you get a road bike, they are fast and their tires take more air so they are harder on the pavement making them spin easier. but otherwise a mountain bike is faster. it has gears to change whereas a BMX doesn't

That's really a no brainer. Obviously, a mountain is faster.
