I have a haro backtrail x1 BMX bike. it is a few years old, I am not sure the exact year I bought it. but there are some dents in my rear rim and I want to replace it. but when I look for rims online they have no spokes or anything they are just the very outer part. can I take the spokes and middle piece from my wheel and put them on a new rim. also the tire says the dimensions are 20x2.1 what should I do.

  1. the "outer part" is called the hoop, there is the hoop, which is the "outer part", the spokes, and then in the middle you have a hub which connects all the spokes and keeps the wheel spinning. you can buy a new hoop, which is probably all you need. but if your not ever sure about the parts of the wheel your going to have an extremely hard time putting the spokes and hub on the new rim. you could get your bike shop to do it for you for about $20.

the tire dimension just means how big the tire is. the first number (20) is pretty much what rim it fits on. there are 4 sizes of wheels really, 20 inch (for BMX) 24 (street bikes, etc.), 26 (most mountain bikes), and 29 (fast-rolling XC bikes).  the second number is how wide the tire is (the 2.1), the 2 is in inch's, so your tire is 2.1 inch's wide. this just helps people not buy the wrong size tire. bmx's will usually fit between a 2.0-2.2 tire, if you try to go bigger its just overkill and will weigh your bike down if you can fit it on.

  2. get a rim called  a plain black rim they are cool and i have a shinning 1 on my back tire it is sick!

  3. When you search for rims you find rims. That's quite predictable as rims are exactly what you are looking for and finding. Try looking for "wheels" on-line. A wheel includes the missing parts.

  4. It's called a RIM. A "HOOP" is slang. So don't let posers confuse you.

    Whoopie!!!!

  5. you can buy a new rim, but buy new spokes at the same time and have them and the rim fitted by a professional as this will create a much stronger wheel and will last longer. also you have to make sure that they will fit together (have the same amount of spokes)! dont buy a rim designed for 36 spokes when the hub(middle of the wheel) is designed for 48 etc.
