BMX sprocket help????

i have a question i just started bmx and i have a big sprocket but i wanna get a smaller one like a 27 or 25 Tooth but i need to get a new casette driver but what do i need to do get a new hub im confused cause i asked someone and they said i need to get a whole new back rim can i just get a new hub or what

  1. You are talking about the chainwheel, not the rear sprocket, which is the freewheel fitted to the hub(this is usually 16 or 18T)

    You can get smaller chainwheels, if you have a one piece crank it will mean completely stripping down the bottom bracket to change it, not a job for an amateur. If you have a 3 piece crank you can change it by removing the right hand crank and swopping them over, you will also need to shorten the chain.

    But, why do you want to change it? its a bit of a fad at the moment and it will mean you have to pedal a lot faster to get a decent turn of speed, since it changes the gear ratio quite a lot.
