Question:

BOB: You're Wrong About Treaty- Why Did You Write So Much When You've Got It Wrong?

Don't waste my time. The antiquated treaty "rights" are currently being challenged in court by people who understand the importance of whales to the environment, and the Makah need a written sanction from NOAA in order to hunt. They don't have that, so it's ILLEGAL. Get It????

The whales in the waters near the Makah place are of a much smaller, local pod, and can have thier health and well-being seriously disrupted by being hunted.

I suppose you believe humans to be 'superior', and the'poor indians were here 1st, all the b.s. most people are so OVER.

Technically these people came here a few thousand years before other races, but they came from china just like everybody else.

As for 'indigenous peoples'. what do you think they do with all the salmon they're allowed...eat it? Is 21 shots from a high powered rifle TRADITION? Give me a break.

  1. If anyone wants the truth about this, here it is in detail.  Yes it's from the tribe.  It's also correct and indicates the thoughtfulness of the tribe about this.

The US government went to the International Whaling Commission to support the Makah's right to hunt.

This particular whale hunt was not in accordance with Makah law.  Which was why the people involved were turned over to the tribe.

EDIT - "Is it only the Makah`s who are hunting whales.  i don`t know,? "

The Makah treaty is the only American treaty giving the right to hunt whales.  Whaling is regulated by the International Whaling Commission, and the US government went before them to get approval to honor the Makah treaty.

This is strictly an emotional issue.  It doesn't endanger the species, however it goes.

  2. zuh

  3. Law or not, this comes down to what is morally correct.

There is absolutely no reason why hunting higher mammals is neccesary for the survival of this tribe.

restoring "discipline and pride" and "whale meat makes us healthier" are BS arguments.

this is no different than japanese dolphin hunts, elephant hunts, seal clubbing, or hunting wolves in alaska with helicopters.

The purpose is so a bunch rednecks (japanese and indians included) can have a good time and turn a proffit by tormenting highly intelligent creatures.

and yes, taking 9 hours to torment and kill a whale with a high powered rifle is different from a hunter using one quick shot to take out a deer and put food on the table.

  4. Can any one join in this ???

this is very interesting Treaties that are one hundred years old .

official permits to go whale hunting .

We once were allowed to kill Germans ,shoot them down where ever ,but the world changes

this is not the same world as 100 years ago ,

    It changes by the year

and these Makahs must be a lot more ,than they were 100 years ago .

there were times when we could hunt all over the place ,

Now there is hardly any place left ,and there the animals numbers are becoming crucial to the eco systems .

The times for culling are over, taking into account the increasing number of possible cullers (and they don't only kill males ,they kill anything including pregnant female)and the diminishing numbers of animals ,it has become out of proportion.

Unless animals are bred and the culling is controlled ,hunting for food, for ever increasing populations is a thing of the past.

To say these Indians had a license to kill one whale for religious reasons is one thing ,to say

everybody the hunt is on ,because our boys are becoming delinquents ,is another thing. And the time will come when that also is out of date,

They will have to adapt to a changing world ,like everybody else ,and there must be other ways to dicipline their kids ,

Are we talking about primitive people .who know nothing else and are cut of from the rest of the world  the problems as well as the benefits,Their appeal was projected in a civilized manner. At least one Makah was very well educated.

Granted there are still places in the world where native populations ,far out of reach from civilization ,are living of the land .But they are in sustainable situations their lands and its wild life are unaffected by civilization.

Is it only the Makah`s who are hunting whales.

    i don`t know,?

my interruption was a general view point.

    Back to you guys
