BOB or Slam man, or other 'bag?

Question

Hi after something for home to practice my striking (punches, elbows and kicks).

I remember BOB and slam man from some time ago, but not tried them before.

Can anyone recommend which is better and/or an alternative free standing punch bag they have used?

There's nothing wrong with Body Opponent Heavy Bags ( BOB ) as a matter of fact every American home should have one for when you want to punch your boss or the slow clerk at the grocery store in the face .... don't take it out on them though .... just come home and smash BOB in the face instead ..... quite a tension reliever actually.

personally i like the BOB bags because you can practice pressure points and what not. (well at least on the uper half of the body) but slam mans are nice too.

i use BOB regularly, i love it i just wish the head was harder, more realistic.

The beauty of BOB is that he's a decent substitute for another human for strike training. Unfortunately, I've never seen a human with a spongy face. That said, it's my opinion that BOB's real purpose is in target training, but can be misleading because it's so forgiving. Note that most of the parts of BOB on the human body would be hard points: he's mainly skull and chest.

Unfortunately, I've never trained with a slam man. I've heard mixed reviews of the product, and it's not something I'd use.

For a free-standing punching bag, Century has a few (I believe they make the WaveMaster but I'm not sure). These are okay, but a good kick can move them, and they tend to start to leak water after a while.

If you have the room, you might consider a hanging heavy bag stand. These can be easily weighted into place and hold a selection of heavy bags, but take up a lot of room.
