  1. learn electronics and computers as a hobby.

There are kits at radio shack to get you started and tons of projects online. I used to do this kind of thing before I got completely wrapped up in the social scene in high school and college.

you can learn a lot of cool tricks, maybe figure out some unique hacks or build your own device. Nothing is as satisfying as figuring out that you can build all kinds of expensive electronics.

I used to have this little box I built that let my broadcast my CD player or a microphone onto an FM radio. It was WAY before that kind of thing was common place and I felt like SUCH A BAD*SS when people asked my where I bought it and I told them I built it.

now that I'm done with undergrad am considering starting up again a little :) good times and good feelings.

  2. it could help if you told us what you were interested in...learn how to play an instrument and practice, that hobby will last you a lifetime.

  3. Dogwalking.

    Plant an indoor herb garden.

Learn to knit or crochet and get started on your Christmas presents.

Make beaded jewelry and get started on your Christmas presents for all the ladies in your life.

  4. I agree with Melanie that you should try to learn an instrument.  It's a very rewarding hobby.  Once you get good at it people will compliment you and you'll feel good about it.  It's lots of fun if you find the right instrument for you.

However, if you don't wanna spend too much time working on your hobby, I'd suggest that you try and pick up a yo-yo.  I love my yo-yo and it's something that you can practice any time.  You can take it anywhere and it's always fun when people are watching you do tricks.  Some people are even astonished for the simplest of tricks like rocking the baby, walking the dog, or around the world.

Yo-yo is cheap, fun, and moderately easy to learn I think.  Just pick up a yo yo and go.  I'd suggest a Duncan tournament style yo-yo.  Then you can move up to the butterfly. ;)

  5. I suggest model railroading. Just ask your folks to take you to your local hobby shop and take a good hard look at what's available. Miniature trains are a delightful hobby, model railroading is fun! :)
