Way back in 1981 I had some "Bravura" speakers. They were a Bose company without the costly "Bose" name badge - and were actually made by Bose. If you can still find them they're V. Good.

Bose is horrible. They run most of their speakers through the subwoofer, which makes it difficult to ever upgrade any component.

As Above, Pro series JBL or MARTIN, depends on power you want to use and what you want to use it for.

Would reccomend Martin Wavefront rig if you want to use 10k or above.

Bose products are in reality, total rubbish.

However, they have the most incredible marketing methods, which make them seem desirable despite the poor sound and poor build quality.  People are suckered into paying thousands of pounds for absolute tat, when they buy Bose.

Bose stopped allowing reviews of their products for many years, simply because all the reviewers were honest and said that Bose products were rubbish.

Any speaker system at the same price (or even cheaper) than Bose WILL have a far superior sound.

You will spend less than the Bose system and get speakers that are to die for.

They are actually kind of crappy (plastic cubes?) - but the marketing machine makes people believe they are premium.

There IS some engineering marvel around them. A sound engineer friend of mine offered this opinion about Bose:

"Bose does more with a 4-inch tweeter than anybody. But there are limits to what you can do only using a 4-inch tweeter".

So they are a marvel of engineering and marketing.  You should note:

- Bose maintains price protection and forces all the stores to sell for the same inflated price.  Consumers then feel they are elite/expensive speakers and expensive means quality - right?

- Bose advertises in every AARP and retired magazine every month. We all know that 50+ people have exceptional hearing - right?

- Bose also runs TV commercials - during the afternoon movies where the demographic is elderly, retired (see the above comment about hearing ability.)

Bose spends .... 6 times more in marketing than in engineering. This is why there is an 'aura' around them.

Doctor Bose did some amazing postgraduate work in audio acoustics. His early speakers were quite good too, if set up properly. For these two reasons, he became well respected in audio circles, and had the support of lower-end audiophiles.

Today, he's not involved in his own company. It's more of a marketing machine now than an organization dedicated to the best possible sound for the money. And, I have to admit, they are one helluva marketing company these days.

Would I buy their products? Definately not anything they are offering right now.

The list of things that are "as good" is pretty short. The list of things that are "better" is extremely long. I can make contractor series in-wall speakers sound better. lol
