Hello, I have bought these speakers

http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-entertainment/personal-audio/computer-speakers/computer-musicmonitor/index.jsp

They sound the equivalent, being BOSE, of much larger speakers.

I essentially connect the speakers to the amp as you would connecting an ipod to a stereo system using the AUX red and white.

I wanted to do this to get my piano and microphone (plugged in the amp) coming through the BOSE speakers - I did this and it sounded fantastic - !!!!!but I am worried whether this is safe for my BOSE speakers - as turned up loudish, sounds muffled I presume keeping at a suitable volume will be ok?!!!!

I am aware PC speakers have an amp built in, but connecting a microphone and piano to this is not possible

Also when I play low bass frequencies, my 150 watt amplifier makes louder fan noises??

Thanks :)

  1. It should be fine as long as you keep the volume down. You are running the risk that someone cranks it up and blows those little speakers but as long as you always have control, you'll be fine.  What amp do you have that is fan cooled? Could be it needs to work harder to cool the unit so it gets louder.

  2. 1 - You are not connected to an amp. Amplifiers connect to speakers using speaker wire not RCA cables. Also it can't be connected like an iPod because the speakers are a destination component not a source component, meaning that music comes from an iPod and goes to a receiver which then sends an amplified signal to the speakers. The speakers are not a source for the music they just play what they are sent. You are connected to an integrated amp or a receiver or more likely a mixer of some kind and are using "pre-amp" outputs. This means you are getting a 1 Volt signal to the speakers that is being amplified by the speakers amplifier.

2 - If you want great sound you could have gotten alot better by getting almost any non computer speakers and using the amplifiers power (Best), or a speaker package with a powered subwoofer like the Klipsch Pro media (Still good). Most audiophiles don't like Bose. They do have great marketing though.

What is the amp or mixer that you are using?
