BPL player auction delayed till December 20 – Cricket News Update
Clashing with the home series against West-Indies, Bangladesh Premier League decided to reschedule its players’ auction to December 20th, ahead of the tournament’s second edition, which will commence on January 18, 2013.
Moving the auction from December 9th to 20th, the new BPL secretary, Ismail Haider Mallik said, “We will hold the opening ceremony on January 17 and start the tournament on January 18. The players' auction will take place on December
20 while a new franchise will be finalised tomorrow. We will bring on board Rangpur as the seventh franchisee.”
The revised date was announced during a press conference which was held for introducing the new members of BPL’s governing council, including new Chairman, Afzalur Rahman Sinha and Secretary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747
Cricket Board’s ad-hoc committee, which replaced the director’s body, which was dissolved in November.
With the previous council facing issues with delayed payments to players and contracts between organizers and franchises, the new Secretary revealed, “We will have the agreements with the franchises completed before December 20. There will be a few instructions
regarding players' payment. For instance, 25% of the payment has to be made between the players' auction and the start of the tournament.”
Mallik also added that another 25 percent will be paid to players before the tournament’s last match, while the remaining 50 percent should be cleared within six months of the last game.
He shared that the organisers have been taking it lightly this year, wanting more time to prepare for solving the disputes (pertaining to player payments and contracts with franchises) from BPL’s last season.
He further disclosed that disputes with foreign players have been resolved but a few with the local players still exist, and should be sorted out shortly.
Bangladesh can only host the event during the scheduled time frame as no other empty slot will be available during the year, given the amount of cricket being played around the world today.
The new chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afzalur-Rahman-c42231 Sinha conveyed that player payments will be made through the BCB this time, and not directly by the franchises.
