BREAKING NEWS: MANSELL BACK ON F1 CIRCUIT WITH BETTOR CAR
Nigel Mansell, one of the UK’s most renowned Formula One drivers, is making a shock return to the sport after a 16 year absence.
The moustachioed maestro will make an unprecedented comeback at the beginning of next season as the number one driver of the new Bettor Racing team.
Worcestershire-born Mansell remains the most successful British Formula One driver of all time in terms of race wins with 31, and is fourth overall on the F1 race winners list behind Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, and Ayrton Senna.
Bettor Racing will unveil their new team at the British Grand Prix this year, but Nigel’s debut is not scheduled until the 2012 season where the veteran will pit his wits against the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and the rest of F1’s new breed.
Mansell, having signed with Bettor Racing for an undisclosed fee, reveals that he has been sitting at home waiting for an offer like this for years and cannot understand why it hasn’t happened sooner. He said, “I can’t believe this opportunity has finally arrived. It’s about time, that’s all I can say. Although most of the boys I used to be up against have long-gone, I still have the passion I had 20 years ago, although perhaps not the waistline.”
Bettor’s new supersonic car comes with the ultimate in diffusers and innovative designs in front and rear wing aerodynamics that can flex without breaching FIA regulations. This enables the car to lift off the ground until only 1cm of tyre is in contact. Furthermore, Bettor Racing plan to introduce its own version of McLarens’ “octopus exhaust system” as well as “Batmobile” style nitro-fuel and there is also talk of designing the car around the specification of the classic 1976 Tyrrell P34.
Jayne Clarke, spokesperson for Bettor.com, says, “We’re extremely pleased that Nige has decided to join our team and everyone is 100% behind him. He’s a top class racing driver and should be back on that track.
“We were inspired by Schumacher’s return to the sport and decided to go after a past great ourselves. Unfortunately Luca Badoer was unavailable, but Mansell was a great second choice.”
The technology used to construct the car has been fully approved by the FIA, and even the extra two stone that Nigel has added to his figure will have minimal effect on its performance.
Although some in the industry have suggested that they have never heard of Bettor Racing and that this is a joke, Mansell confirms he is set to demonstrate how serious he is by re-growing that famous crumb catcher.
The former champ said “I’m fully aware that this comeback could be perceived as ludicrous, but this is a team that I have the utmost respect for and expect the same from those in the industry. Yes the moustache will be back; despite the fact it is hidden under my helmet it is fantastic for the aerodynamics of my car and can take two to three seconds off my lap time.”
Happy April Fools Day! Just in case you hadn’t realised, this is a fictional news story
