BREAKING NEWS: Monaco Grand Prix circuit damaged due to truck fire – Formula 1
Recent reports have revealed that the circuit of the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 race, the Monaco Grand Prix has been partially damaged due to truck fire.
The organisers of the Monaco GP have announced that they are working at the circuit in order to repair the damage caused.
This is quite shocking as the race is expected to take place this weekend and if the organisers do not get these problems solved as soon as possible, the venue’s reputation would be dented severely.
The organisers however, are quite confident that they will be able to repair the damage before the race but they are not sure whether the asphalt will dry in time before the Thursday morning practice session.
The incident took place near turn one which is an uplifting turn while the workers were trying to make some improvements to the track using a small lorry which was parked in the braking zone. The lorry unfortunately caught fire as a result of which the blaze
caused burn damage to that area of the track.
Former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle, who has been the British commentator of the sport, has also revealed that the damage is near the turn-in point which is towards the right if one’s coming from the start/finish line across the pit lane.
Monte Carlo is the tightest circuit of the Formula 1 calendar and it is believed to be one of the most technical circuits ever made in motorsports history. It is a street circuit and it is one of those few circuits which have not been altered a lot compared
to their original layout over the years.
The Drag Reduction System zone of the track is going to be the straight of the start/finish line which is 300meters long instead of the long right bending tunnel. The organisers want to keep it as safe as they can and with the falling hard rubber off the
new Pirelli tyres which scatters all around the track, keeping the tunnel as the DRS zone could have proved quite dangerous.
