  1. Hiya

When some companies take over the line they lease the line from BT openreach but still use the bt equipment. Lately some companies most notably TalkTalk have been disconnecting the lines from the network onto there own Voip network hence why they say its soo cheap (for them that is).

The problems are to transfer again requires a whole new line as the number and everything has gone. They dont tell you that do they when you sign up.

  2. BT are going to charge you a set up fee as a new customer.Even although the line is the same, they have lost your custom all this time. Happened to me,but engineer never even came but was still charged.

  3. Call-centre operators sometimes say this if they don't understand the technical aspects of the job. It's a generic sort of answer given (wrongly) as a "catch-all" to all sorts of operations. In fact there is no need for an engineers's visit - there never was any alteration made physically to your equipment.

  4. why don/t you ask bt the same question. they should know the answer.

  5. Not sure how true it is, but I heard that TALK TALK install equipment on lines they take over that can interfere with BT's ability to test the line etc from the exchange, particulary for Broadband services, and as a result BT often have to send an engineer out.

Not saying that's why TALK TALK do it,  just that it's a side effect.

As I say, just something I heard, it was from a telecoms person who said it was a common problem on TALK TALK to BT transfers ... but I've no idea if it's gospel or gossip.

  6. We used to have Talk Talk and at no time did BT ever have to come out when we returned to them, and we surely didn't have to pay them anything as you are still paying line rental to them even though you calls were charged through Talk Talk.  My advice is to get onto British Telecoms Customer Support and find out why you have to pay anything when you still have their line in your home.  In the meantime DON'T let anyone into your home until you have spoken to someone in the supervisory role in BT.

Hope I Have Been Of Some Use

    Good Luck
