BT Landline problems?

Has anyone ever come across this problem. Occasionally I can be speaking on the phone and then suddenly the person at the other end cannot hear me. If I move the hand set around they can suddenly hear me again. I replaced the phone with a brand new one and it does the same thing! I had BT engineer out for an hour and he could find nothing wrong with the phone line!

  1. I to experienced this problem whilst I was with BT. Since being with Tesco it hasn't happened but I'm at a loss as to why because it is the same telephone line. I do however know that BT aren't very forthcoming at fixing problems. I've been waiting for them to do something to my line for 2 weeks so I can have broadband!

  2. One way transmission faults ( like yours ) are either one of two things. The handset at your home address OR an equipment fault at the telephone exchange.

Did BT tell you that the line tested ok ? If so then it sounds to me like an exchange problem and requires a BT engineer to change the equipment card there.

Then again if are on a DACS.......but I'm sure the engineer who came to you would have checked, that if you were.

  3. Yes! I posted a question on behalf of my parents they had exactly the same problem. They had 4 different sets of phones and took them all back because they thought they were faulty. They had an engineer out, he couldn't find a fault so they were charged £117.50 call out fee, which they refused to pay as it was bt who told them there was a fault and they needed an engineer. Guess what the engineer told them?....Get new phones but make sure they are bt phones as most other makes won't work with their phone lines!! So I bought some bt phones for them and they haven't had any problems since!

    *Edit*

All I can say is my parents had this problem for 18 months and now with new BT phones the problem has gone. I don't know what else to suggest, except keep on to BT. My mum threatened to get in touch with watchdog tv prog if they didn't cancel the call out fee....Suddenly it was cancelled!
