I'm seriously unhappy with BT payment charges and so tempted to ring them if I could only get through and tell them to stick their line rental right up where the sun don't shine. I currently get my broadband connection with Virgin Media which I'm pretty pleased with but is their some way I can get a broadband connection without having to use BT also????

  1. Are you insane? Virgin media is a cable company, you dont need BT!!

    http://allyours.virginmedia.com/?vmsrc=v...

change to there fiber optic broadband if you dont already have it.

  2. depends on where you live ..

    if you can get cable

    or

if your local exchange has been unbundled ( local loop unbundling)

then you can get a phone line provided by your isp/broadband provider and pay the line rental to them

look on samknows.co.uk to see if youre in either of these areas

  3. HELLO

NO NOT WITH THE BROARD BAND YOU HAVE.

MINE IS THE SAME AND YOU MUST HAVE BT LINE, THE OTHERS WILL NOT WORK.

A FRIEND TRIED FOR 2 WEEKS TO GET HIS CONNECTED, ONLY STOPPED WHEN I FOUND HIM WATCHING CABLE AND POINTED OUT THAT AT TWO POINTS OF SIGNING UP FOR VIRGIN BROADBAND VIA THE WEB PAGE YOU HAD TO CONFIRM BY CLICKING ON BUTTON TO CONFIRM YOU KNOWV THAT YOU NEED THE BT LAND LINE AND THAT OTHERS WILL NOT WORK.

HOWEVER THIS DOES NOT STOP YOU GOING TO ANOTHER BROARD BAND SUPPLYER YOU JUST NEED TO CONFIRM WHAT OTHER IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA.  MY SISTER HAS CABLE AND WIRELESS WHO SUPPLY  LAND LINE, BROARDBAND AND TV.

SOME WILL CONECT USING A BOX SEPERATE TO THE PHONE LINE SO YOU CAN USE WHOEVER YOU WANT FOR LAND LINE BUT IF AVAIABLE IN YOUR AREA THEY WILL NEED TO GET IN YOUR HOUSE TO INSTALL, A £30-40 CHARGE?

  4. Absolutely!

  5. the easy answer is no you cant you can certainly choose your broadband supplier and even change your call supplier too but ultimately the phone line connection to your house remains the property of bt and you have to pay them for it there is no way out sorry hope this helps

  6. Phone virgin and ask them if you cant get through to BT. Talk Talk needs a BT line, but you dont subscribe to BT at all, just use the line.

  7. BT are extortionate. They are con merchants. Most broadband providers want a BT line but if you've been with BT longer then their contract minimum you can change over with no cancellation fee. I was with BT but got rid as their bills were ridiculous and I now have my broadband through talktalk and they have taken over my line from BT.

  8. get a contract for web n walk from t mobile available now at carphone warehouse UK and you get a free laptop its 29 pound per month

  9. If you have sky you can get a total package with them at a very reasonable price and they will take over the BT line and all you do is pay sky for everything.I did this and now have only one bill, its well worth it .Good luck.

  10. No you have to have a bt line make sure you have option 1 its the cheapest but still a rip off

  11. I don't pay any BT line rental. I pay £20 flat fee and get my broadband and telephone (any time all calls+ ten international destinations all included for the one fee) That's with Tiscali, That's £20 per month.

  12. If you are getting your broadband through a land line it will be one serviced by BT Openreach. Now there are several companies that will rent you the land line, and the one I am with is without doubt the best and are a bit cheaper than BT.

When I switched there was no obvious difference to the service, but now I have a company with a customer service dept who you can actually talk to. Not only that when I had a problem with the line they organised with Open reach to get it fixed and kept calling me back with their progress, I got 5 calls on the day I reported the fault, it was fixed the next day.

I also get my broadband through the same line and my compute did not notice any difference either when the service switched over.

If you would like to find out more email me.

  13. tell BT to stick their line rental and download skype.....its all you need...get your broadband thru a cable company

  14. Hi hunni

I have broadband & I don't pay anything to BT. Most utility companies now provide line rental on an existing line, call & check. I left BT last year so it's a pile of tosh if anyone says you have to stay with BT for your line rental, it's not true.

    Good Luck hunni. X :-)
