  1. The caliber of the weapon refers to the diameter on the projectile, and is also tied to the size of the case.  A .22 Long Rifle round is a small (about 1 inch-long) cartridge and is a rimfire (the primer is enclosed in the rim of the cartridge, while the .223 remington (M-16 round) is a bottle-neck case much longer, and has a centrally-located replacable primer. both fire .224 caliber bullets, but the .223 is much faster, and fires a heavier bullet.  you should be able to find pictures of the loaded rounds (cartridges)  on any of the ammunition manufacturer's websites (Remington, Winchester, etc...)
