BUYING A Cockatiel HELP IN MELB.VIC. AUSTRALIA?

just wondering anyone know good classsified sites, petstore sites or breeders around geelong and melb region for cockatiels??? just very keen any lots of help in finding good young cockatiels be great. thanks for your time

They are both Australia wide but I've never had to wait more than a week or 2 to find what I wanted in my area.

You can also try your local Sunday markets. Most have the "bird people" that sell hand raised birds.

I'd advise against buying from a petshop. Apart from the fact that you may end up paying double what you would direct from a breeder, you don't get to see the environment that the birds came from and were raised in.

Also a beautifully handraised and social bird may be sold to a petshop and then left in a cage without human contact for weeks other than customers and children taunting it through the bars for hours on end, or put out on display for hundreds of fingers to poke at it all day and the friendly bird ain't friendly no more.

I know its a fair way out of the way but if you want an awesome hand raised bird that is well socialised, well looked after and very lovingly hand reared try j&g pets & hobbies in Lakes Entrance, Vic.

It's like, 300km away but their bird setup is awesome. They hand rear many different types of parrot and have them all out on open display in their 'bird corner.' I bought my green cheeked conure there 2 years ago and I wouldn't get a bird from anywhere else.

They will be able to give you all the advice you need, they make many of their own bird toys, and sell a great variety of toys and supplies. Its only a small shop but I love it.
