I intend to buy some electrical equipment from the U.S.A. Its a DVD recorder system. Will it work here?? I know that I will probably have to change the plugs but when I record DVD's will they play on our players. If I'm right I'm sure there are different types of DVD players around the world. If anyone can shead any light on this would be most grateful.

Cheers

Jo

  1. You don't say what equipment you are getting, some have switchable supplies that just would need a different plug.

Provide model numbers or contact the manufacture for a potential solution.

  2. You are just going to cause yourself a big headache for no reason.

Why not simply buy a DVD recorder in the U.K.?  It will work, straight from the box with no problems at all.

  3. You will need a US to UK voltage converter. The american voltage is 114v and ours is 220v. Connect the two together and it will go bang and start to smoke. Get one from http://www.maplin.co.uk   It is about £17.50.

  4. You'll need to get a converter and an adapter for the plug so that it fits into your outlet and so that the voltage level doesn't destroy it. You can get those pretty much anywhere, but travel stores are a good place to look first. I'm pretty sure DVDs are the same everywhere but I'm not completely positive. You should call a customer service number of the company you're buying it from and ask them. They may be able to refer you to a different product that would work for you if that one won't.
