BWF Super Series Finals: Ko Sung Hyun – Yoo Yeon Seong stun Cai Yun – Fu Haifeng in Group A
Korea’s talented shuttlers, Ko Sung Hyun and Yoo Yeon Seong, have stunned the World Number One pair of Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China, in the Men’s Doubles Group A contest at the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, in Liu Zhou, China, on Friday, December 16.
The World Number Four pair of Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong put up superb show and thrashed their higher ranked opponents in straight games. The Chinese pair failed to win even a singles game in the match and bowed down without impressing home fans.
The huge crowd at the indoor stadium at Liu Zhou got disappointed as the home favourites failed to live up to expectations. The opening game was tough as both sides remained close but the Koreans played well at the ending points and won the set. The second
game was a smooth ride for Korean shuttlers as they finished it easily with a good difference.
In the opening set of the match, both pairs played at their maximum speed and grabbed the attention of huge local crowd by keeping the pace at the highest level. They employed powerful smashes and strong pushes to dominate the rallies. At the same time,
both sides also employed incredible defensive strokes. Until the break both pairs remained close on the score board.
After the break, this wonderful contest continued in the similar way and both sides reached at the concluding phase without taking any lead. The score was 19-19 when the Korean pair played mature badminton by working well at the net and took the set with
a margin of 22-20.
In the second game, the Impressive Korean maintained their upper hand in the game as they established wonderful lead in a flash. Their impressive stroke selection and execution spared no chance for the top seeded Chinese duo in the opening half of the game.
They reached at 11-4 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Yun and Haifeng tried to play better badminton by accelerating their speed in all areas of the court. However, it was too late as the Koreans were far ahead and finished the game with a 21-16 score on the board. Sung Hyun and Yeon Seong
ended the match with a 22-20 and 21-16 score on the board.
