BWF Super Series Finals: Saina Nehwal beats Youn Joo Bae in Group B contest
India’s top seed and World Number Four, Saina Nehwal, found a tough start as she had to work hard to beat Korea’s Youn Joo Bae in the Women’s Singles Group B contest at the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, on Wednesday, December 14, in China.
Nehwal, who has been struggling hard throughout the year to find a killing form, had to dig into her reserves to get rid of the stubborn Korean in a three-set match. The Indian played to her full potential and finished the battle by taking 64 minutes of court time. Joo Bae played well but not enough to beat the higher ranked Indian and lost the match.
The Indian worked well in the first game and took it easily without facing tough resistance. In the following set, the Korean showed her elevated skills and levelled the match by winning this set with a decent score. In the final game, the Indian found her winning momentum back and finished the set with a striking margin.
Nehwal opened the first game in scintillating fashion as she played with wonderful precision and established her supremacy by setting up an impressive lead. The Korean failed to match the speed and skills of the talented Indian in the whole opening set. Nehwal finished the game in style with a superb score of 21-14.
In the second game of the match, Joo Bae remained close to her higher ranked opponent and dictated the pace of the game by working well at the net area. Nehwal failed to maintain her control over the rallies and lost the second game with a four-point difference of 17-21.
Nehwal changed her tactics in the final game and started to employ fast drop shots to disturb the flow of Korean shuttler. She remained successful in her strategy and managed to take a comfortable lead. Joo Bae tried to reduce the deficit but failed to break the momentum of her Indian rival.
Nehwal won the final game with a wonderful ease by a one-sided score of 21-14. This Women’s Singles contest ended in 64 minutes with a margin of 21-14, 17-21 and 21-14.
