BWF Super Series Finals: Saina Nehwal crushes Tine Baun to reach into Women’s Singles final
India’s most successful female shuttler, Saina Nehwal, seems to have found her killing form back as she has crushed Denmark’s Tine Baun in the Women’s Singles semi-final of the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, in China, on Saturday, December 17.
The World Number Four Saina, who has been suffering with a worst bad patch in the whole current year, has found her momentum in the last event of the year as she has reached into the final.
In the semi-final battle, the Indian showed no mercy to Baun who is currently World Number Five in the Women’s Singles world rankings. Saina played superb badminton in both games and finished the match in just 35 minutes.
The first game was interesting until the second half when the Indian worked well and won the set with a good margin. In the following set, Baun remained struggling to find her momentum and lost the game with a decent difference.
Saina, who is unbeatable so far in the whole event, played to her full potential in the opening game. However, the Danish played well and managed a small lead in the opening points of the set. She was leading the game in the first set with a margin of 11-9.
After the break, Saina changed her tactics by playing with precision. She remained on track and pushed her challenger on the back foot by dominating the rallies at the net. She remained in superb control of the game and levelled the score at 11-11. Baun
lost her focus in the game which helped the Indian to build a comfortable lead. Saina continued her impressive play and finished the game with a margin of 21-17.
In the second game of the match, Baun played well this time and remained successful in setting up a reasonable lead until the break by reaching at 11-8. But again, Saina came from behind by playing aggressive game and levelled the score at 12-12.
The Indian started to control the pace of the game and remained on track to end up the second game with a decent score of 21-18. This semi-final contest ended in just 35 minutes with a 21-17 and 21-18 score on the board.
In the Women’s Singles final, Saina will be up against the top seed and World Number One, Wang Yihan of China, who defeated her compatriot Wang Xin in the other semi-final battle.
