BWF Super Series Finals: Sung Ji Hyun stuns Wang Yihan in the opening match – Badminton news
Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun has found a phenomenal start as she has stunned the higher ranked Wang Yihan of China in the first match of Group-A in the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, in china, on Wednesday, December 14.
The World Number 12, Ji Hyun played to her full potential in her opening round robin match and thrashed Yihan, who is currently World Number One in the Women’s Singles world rankings. The Korean consumed 71 minutes to register victory over the top seed from
China by playing wonderful badminton for three games. The top seed Chinese remained unlucky as she failed to play well at the concluding phase of the final game and lost the match.
The Korean played well in the first half of the opening game but lost her focus in the game at the concluding half and lost it with a huge difference. However, she bounced back in an impressive manner and took the second game with a good score. In the final
game, the Korean played well in the end and took the game to make her mark over the Chinese.
The opening game of the match was a tough fight as both ladies remained close until the score reached at 12-12. At this stage the Korean failed to control the pace of the rallies and lost the first set with a margin of 13-21.
In the following game, the Chinese remained ahead of the Korean in the opening half and reached at 12-5. At this stage, Ji Hyun started to play with aggression by employing smashes and pushes. This strategy worked well and she managed to level the score
by reaching at 15-15. She remained composed at this stage and scored six consecutive points to finish the set with a margin of 21-16.
In the finals set, the Chinese again took a lead of 11-7 in the opening half. She remained positive this time and played aggressive badminton throughout the game and reached at 19-17. At this stage, the Korean scored four points in a row to finish up the
set with a margin of 21-19. The Korean won the match in three games of 71 minutes by a 13-21, 21-16 and 21-19 score on the board.
