BWF Super Series Finals: Wang Yihan ousts Juliane Schenk in Women’s Singles Group A match
China’s top seed and current World Number One, Wang Yihan, has destroyed the hopes of Germany’s Juliane Schenk by beating her in the last match of Women’s Singles Group A at the BWF Super Series Finals, in Liu Zhou, China, on Friday, December 16.
The Chinese had to employ all of her skills to chuck out Schenk, who is currently World Number Seven in the Women’s Singles rankings. Yihan opened the match in a quivering way but found her flow back on the right time and won the battle in three games by
putting up superb show for 59 minutes.
Schenk played stunning badminton in opening set of the match when she crushed the higher ranked Chinese with a huge margin. However, Yihan bounced back in the match and took the following both games to end the match as a winner.
In the opening rallies of the first game, both ladies played fast game to take an early lead. The score was 6-6 when the German accelerated her speed and managed to push her challenger on the back foot. Yihan failed to place her strokes in the right areas
and also committed many unforced errors and eventually lost the set with a 14-21 score.
In the second game, both shuttlers remained close until 11-11 when the Chinese started to push her opponent in the left corner of rear court area. Her strategy worked well and she managed to win the second game with a superb 21-14 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Yihan dominated the pace of rallies from the starting points by playing to her full potential. She was quicker in placing her strokes in all areas of the court and managed to establish superb lead in the opening half of the set.
In the concluding part of the final set, Yihan remained quite focused and showed no mercy to her rival in the whole game. She continued her phenomenal run and finished the set with a good score of 21-15.
Yihan emerged as the winner of this last match of Group A and the final result of this entertaining contest was 14-21, 21-14 and 21-15.
