China’s top seed, Wang Yihan, has powered her way into the Women’s Singles final after beating her lower ranked compatriot, Wang Xin, in the semi-final showdown at the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, on Saturday, December 17, in China.
Yihan, who has occupied number one position in the Women’s Singles world standings, played dominating game against her team-mate in the semi-final match. She played to her full potential and emerged as the winner of this contest by ending it in straight
games of 41 minutes.
The top seed had to dig into her reserves to bring out fascinating strokes to win the first game with a tight margin. In the following game, Yihan played with precision and took the game with a convincing score on the board.
The starting points of the opening game were interesting when both Chinese shuttlers remained close by playing at the highest level of badminton. However, Yihan started to target the side lines of her opponent’s court by executing powerful smashes and reached
at 11-7 until the 60-second break in the first set.
After the break, Xin started to execute her over-head cross-court drop shots and semi-smashes. Her perfect stroke placement troubled the higher ranked opponent and she levelled the score by reaching at 11-11. The score progressed closely until 19-19 when
Yihan played aggressive badminton and won the set with a narrow margin of 21-19.
In the second set of the match, Yihan played controlled game as she remained ahead of her opponent until the break as she reached at 18. She played to her maximum potential and pushed Xin in the forehand corner of the rear court area. She was also working
really well at the net as her spinning net shots were landing perfectly.
After the break, Xin played well as she levelled the score by reaching at 12-12. At this stage, Yihan increased her speed and injected more power in her strokes to occupy the driving seat. She remained focused in the rest of the second set and finished it
with a striking score of 21-16. The overall result of this semi-final battle was 21-19 and 21-16.
