BWF Super Series Finals: Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei claim Mixed Doubles title – Badminton news
World Number One shuttlers, Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China, have claimed Mixed Doubles title after beating their compatriots, Xu Chen and Ma Jin, in the title match of the 2011 BWF Super Series Finals, on Sunday, December 18, in China.
Nan and Yunlei have been playing peerless badminton throughout the current year and have ended it in wonderful fashion by winning the title in Super Series Finals. They thrashed their team-mates in straight game of 38 minutes and cheered the crowd with their
phenomenal performance.
With this victory, Nan and Yunlei have won the third successive title in a period of just one month. They displayed remarkable skills in the recent events and achieved precious ranking points which will help them to maintain their position in next year’s
Olympic Games. In the world rankings, they are miles ahead of the number two pair.
Nan and Yunlei played superb badminton in the opening game of the match and did not face any trouble from their opponents in winning the set with a huge difference.
In the second set, Chen and Jin tried to match the speed of their higher ranked opponents but failed to dominate the rallies and lost the game with a comfortable margin.
The first set remained tight until the score reached at 7-7. At this stage, Nan and Yunlei lifted up their level of play and started to build lead. They reached at 11-8 until the 60-second interval in the first game.
After the break, Nan and Yunlei continued their planned badminton and took no time in finishing the set with a striking margin of 21-13. Chen and Jin had no answer to the aggression of their team-mates.
In the following game, Chen and Jin played changed game and managed to set up an early lead. However, Nan and Yunlei recovered the deficit by reaching at 7-7 and continued their aggressive play.
The positive and planned game of Nan and Yunlei helped them to progress with a wonderful pace and they finished the second game by a superb score of 21-15. The final result of this straight-set Mixed Doubles final was 21-13 and 21-15.
