BWF Superseries Finals 2012: Du Pengyu overpowers Hu Yun to top Men’s Singles Group A
China’s upcoming shuttler Du Pengyu continued his winning run and stayed at the top in Men’s Singles Group A as he stamped his mark over Hong Kong’s Hu Yun at the BWF Superseries Finals 2012 at Shenzhen, China, on Thursday, December 13.
With this victory in the Group A stage, Pengyu secured his place in the semi-final of the tournament as he has already defeated Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in his opening match at the group stage.
The impressive Pengyu, who has been positioned at number nine in Men’s Singles world placements, worked hard against the World Number 14 Yun and managed to grab a narrow win in front of his home fans.
Pengyu has been working extra hard in training sessions and has got elevated skills that helped him to play top quality badminton when it mattered most and he remained successful in winning this Men’s Singles clash in straight games with a close margin on
the board.
On the other hand, the Hong Kong shuttler tried his level best to play positive badminton and he also remained successful in troubling his local challenger but he failed to put up strong show in the ending points and lost the match with a reasonable total.
In the opening set, both shuttlers started their run in a positive and aggressive fashion as they did not let the pace of rallies down and maintained the top quality of the game.
Pengyu tried his best to set up an early lead but he failed to create pressure on his opponent was also in superb form.
Meanwhile, Yun played attacking badminton proving that he has got top class skills on court and remained successful in sticking around his local challenger at the opening stage.
Both shuttlers performed well in the opening half and stayed close on the board until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Yun tried to accelerate his speed but failed to get control of rallies as his challenger started to dictate the pace of rallies.
Chinese shuttler, meanwhile, stayed very calm and composed on court as he did not play negative badminton and ended up the first set with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
In the second game, Yun changed his tactics and played with impressive speed that helped him in creating pressure on his Chinese opponent.
However, Hong Kong shuttler failed to set up a comfortable lead in the opening half as Pengyu also played at the same speed and the score remained tight until the break.
After the interval, both men continued showing their marvellous skills in the arena and pushed each other in all areas while employing powerful smashes and tumbling net shots.
They continued showing their lofty raft all the way in the concluding half of second game and the score reached at the breath-taking stage of 21-21.
However, Pengyu did not lose his focus at this stage and executed a few incredible shots and won the game with a narrow margin of 23-21.
Pengyu remained successful in winning this second Group A match when he defeated Yun in a thrilling fight with a close 21-18 and 23-21 score on the board.
The Chinese shuttler proved his elevated skills especially in his match against Chong Wei. He has established his name among the most passionate and young shuttlers in the arena.
