BWF Superseries Finals: Li Xuerui narrowly beats Wang Shixian in Women’s Singles Group A contest
China’s talented player and ruling Olympic Champion Li Xuerui had to employ all of her skills and she defeated her compatriot Wang Shixian in Women’s Singles Group A contest at BWF Superseries Finals 2012 on Wednesday, December 12, in Shenzhen.
The World Number Two Xuerui, who is top seed in Women’s Singles seeding in the championship, had to dig into her arsenal and she remained successful in winning this epic battle in rubber games in 61 minutes.
Xuerui played to her maximum potential throughout the contest and she managed to overpower her lower ranked team-mate in rubber games with a narrow margin on the score board.
Meanwhile, the World Number Five Shixian played with remarkable precision and managed to trouble her challenger throughout battle. However she failed to take charge of rallies in the ending points and lost the match with a respectable deficit.
In the starting game, both Chinese ladies played to their maximum potential in the arena as they stayed focused all the way. Until the interval, they were close on score board as no one could manage a comfortable lead.
After the break, the match progressed closely as both participants put up superb show of top quality badminton. However, it was Xuerui who managed to show her aggression in ending points and took the first game with a close margin of 21-19.
In the second game, Shixian showed her brilliance as she played with complete precision and managed to set up a reasonable gap until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, the top seeded Xuerui tried her best to play positive badminton but failed create any difference. She could not stay positive in ending points and lost the second game with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both ladies played terrific badminton and stayed close all the way until the end of opening half.
After the break, Xuerui took over the control by accelerating her speed in all areas of the court and managed to wrap up the final set with close margin of 21-18.
Xuerui emerged as the winner of this absolutely thrilling battle in three games with a close 21-19, 15-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
