BWF World Junior Championships 2012: Kento Momota surges into Men’s Singles quarter-final
Kento Momota, one of the most decorated junior shuttlers in Japan, continued his roller-coaster run in the arena and remained successful in reaching into the Men’s Singles quarter-final at the BWF World Junior Championships 2012 for EYE – Level Cups, which
is in progress at Chiba, Japan.
In the round-of-16, the in-form Momota showed a wonderful display of his lofty skills and outplayed China’s Guo Kai in a straight-set battle on Thursday, November 1.
Momota, who has been positioned at number two in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, had to dig into his arsenal to overpower his stubborn Chinese opponent in a superb fight that took the best from both contestants.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Kai also displayed his aggressive approach and played with wonderful speed but he was lacking the patience required at the crucial stages and eventually went down to his local opponent with a respectable total on the board.
It was a wonderful fight right from the starting rallies when both contestants showed a wonderful display of their hard-to-learn craft in the arena.
The speed of the rallies was very fast in first set as both players showed a positive approach and progressed at the same pace while remaining close on the board.
Until the end of opening half, both participants were quite close as no one could dominate the arena in the opening half of first game.
The match progressed in the similar manner after the mid-game interval as and both shuttlers reached at the breath-taking stage of 20-20.
At this stage, Momota played with patience and commitment and did not execute any hasty shot which helped him to grab the set with a tight difference of 22-20.
In the second game, Momota played with complete control as he did not show any mercy to Kai in the opening half and took a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, Momota did not let his Chinese opponent to level the score and remained successful in taking the set with a 21-17 score on the board.
The impressive Momota emerged as the winner in this pre-quarter-final battle in straight sets with a decent margin of 22-20 and 21-17.
