BYU sweeps LBSU in California – Volleyball news
The Brigham Young University (BYU) had a match recently with their counter parts from Long Beach State University (LBSU).
The Cougars are ranked number forth in the national rankings whereas the LBSU are placed at number nine. The competition between the two sides took place in California.
The match did not take too long to reach its close as BYU was able to hand out a defeat to their counter parts from Long Beach by making a clean sweep over them. The only set that was competitive in the match was the first one after which Long Beach lost
their steam and the Cougars won the next two frames by a comfortable margin. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores by the time that the match reached its close: 29-27, 25-11 and 25-16.
The player that was able to lead the Cougar team in the match with the most score was Senior opposite hitter Robb Stowell. Stowell was the top scorer in the match as he was able to score a total of 14 points to keep the pressure on his rival team.
The first set of the match saw the 49ers take an early lead at 3-0 to put the pressure on their rivals. However, the Cougars were able to make the match reach a tie at 8-8. Once they had the lead, the Cougars did not let go of the advantage until they had
secured the opening frame of the game at 29-27.
The loss of the first set did not sit well with the 49ers who were unable to keep themselves motivated in the second set and only put in a half hearted effort.
As a result, the Cougars did not have a tough time in bagging the second set of the match at 25-11.
The third set of the match followed the same pattern as its predecessor with the Cougars securing the final frame at 25-16.
Next in line for the Cougar squad are matches against Cal State Northridge which are scheduled to take place on Thursday as well as Friday. The matches will be played in Provo.
