Question:

Babies born late ? ?

I was just wondering ,

When a baby is born premature there are often complications , obviously , as the baby has not had the full period to develop fully. So what happens when a baby is born late ? (if that's possible or common) if a child is born , say , 2 or 3 weeks late (again, if that's possible) are there health problems as there are with premature babies ? Or is it ok ? Or are there negative effects on the mother ?(presuming it's possiblee)JW

Thanks x

  1. idk i was born late and nothins wrong with me well at least then there wasnt lol

  2. I know someone who went 3wks late & the crappy dr didn't induce, as sad as it is, she gave birth to a dead baby ='[

She could've sued the hospital & dr, but she was hurting too much to think about that.

I'm crying now from typing her story.. It was really sad. It was a girl, she has now 2  boys.

  3. i don't think you can be born 2-3 weeks late but i was born six days late and there were no complications. my mom was just tired of being pregnant!

  4. I was born almost a month late.  I'm 22 now and I guess as normal as normal can be.  I was delivered by a midwife and I was a perfectly healthy child.  no complications.

  5. I know they worry about the placenta deteriorating if you go over a couple weeks. My daughter was 7 days late and had already had a BM in utero ,so that had effected her breathing as she had breathed some into her lungs. the risk of having a baby stillborn significantly raise with being overdue 2 weeks. I've been looking this stuff up cause i'm 3 days over with no signs of going anytime soon.

  6. my son was born at 42 weeks 3 days. he had dry skin that was flaking, and they took my placenta for some tests and noticed that it wasnt feeding my son for a few days, so I was lucky that he wasnt a stillborn. AS for me, I was fine, a bit uncomfortable and impatient, but we got through just fine and I talked my doctor into releasing me early because I just really wanted to go home.

  7. well assuming the mother is recieving prenatal care, the ob will decide when to induce, generally they dont let you go longer than 2 weeks.

  8. Most often, a post-term baby is born in good health. But a very small number of post-term pregnancies are linked to stillbirth and infant death. This risk increases with each week, up to 10 per 1,000 post-term pregnancies after 43 weeks.9 This is why your doctor or nurse-midwife will monitor your baby after 40 to 41 weeks.

Many health professionals want to lower risks for the post-term baby by delivering by or before 42 weeks. In most cases, watching and waiting is also fine. It is often hard to know which choice is best during the 2 weeks after the due date:9

Any time after the due date that a fetal problem shows up in testing, it is time to deliver.

For safety reasons, most health professionals will plan to deliver a baby by 42 weeks, inducing labor if necessary. Generally, the risks of waiting for natural labor beyond 42 weeks are thought to outweigh the benefits.

  9. My Son was finally born in the early hours of the 12th day past his due date.  By the time I was in labor I was measuring big across the bump, if a baby continues to grow in the womb the harder it will be to get the baby's head out.  This can mean the labor can be longer, harder and more stressful for both the baby and mother.

Also, when my son was born his skin was peeling all over, as if he had been 'done' too long in the oven!!!

    Hopes this helps...?
