Babies with reflux or milk protein intolerance...?

Did your babies have problems once they started solid foods?

My 6-month old has had severe reflux problems since 2 weeks. Because my husband has problems with milk protein, we put our baby on Alimentum formula (which is for milk protein intolerance) at 3 months and it was a drastic improvement. Within a week he was no longer constipated, hardly spitting up, and drinking nearly twice as much a day.

Now we have started him on solid foods, rice cereal and a few vegetables, and in the last 2 weeks or so he has started back with the projectile vomiting and fussiness. He has also started coughing and gagging alot, which usually happens right before the projectile vomiting.

Did this ever happen to you? If so, what caused it, and what did you do?

I am in the process of finding a new(GOOD) pediatrician, and so I need some feedback from parents who have been there. THANKS!

  1. Keep him on the foods, especially if he is losing most of his milk.  Ask your new doctor about a pyloric stenosis.  One of the signs is the projectile vomiting.  It is most prevalent in first born sons.  They thought my oldest daughter had this, but didn't.  It isn't a life and death situation, I believe they have to operate, but I don't remember.  It is rare and isn't a very big deal.  It also can be as simple as allergies.  Children getting early immunizations develop allergies early and it could just be phlegm.  I wouldn't panic right at the moment, just find a good doctor and go from there.
