Babos/ Buryachok breeze past Sillanpaa/ Hyoty
in quarterfinal – OrtoLaakarit Open 2011
Hungarian Timea Babos with Ukrainian Irina Buryachok swept away Finnish couple of Annika Sillanpaa with Johanna Hyoty in the quarterfinal of the OrtoLaakarit Open 2011.
The two crews locked into a fierce duel on the hard courts in Helsinki, Finland at the ITF Women’s Circuit tournament. It took Babos/ Buryachok only thirty nine minutes to thrash Sillanpaa/ Hyoty and that too in straight sets of
6-0, 6-2 on Thursday the 24th of November 2011.
Although both the sets were bagged by Babos/ Buryachok, the opening round was a clearer victory. With a geometric precision, the Hungarian/ Ukrainian hit 53 percent of their first serves on target where as Sillanpaa/ Hyoty were
only able to target a 44 percent. Moreover, Babos/ Buryachok bagged an ostentatious 88 percent of their first service points in the opening set.
They not only had a super service game but also a good return which enabled them to bag a walloping 67 percent of their total return points in the initial round. Mustering further, Babos/ Buryachok saved five out of seven breakpoints
that they faced and instead capitalized on a sixty percent of breakpoints won.
With a defence which was as strong as an ox, they did not furnish a single breakpoint opportunity to their adversaries in the entire set! Instead, with almost thrice as many total points as Sillanpaa/ Hyoty, they clogged the opening
round with a bagel set victory.
During the second set they took a notch higher in their service technique and as they powered through the opening round, they set the tone for the second. This time Babos/ Buryachok clobbered an even better first serve share of
70 percent as compared to 52 percent of Sillanpaa/ Hyoty’s first serve share.
Furthermore, they registered an imposing 93 percent win of their first service points and again did not provide a single breakpoint opportunity for their adversaries. Although this time they had an above average return, they still
managed to tactfully capitalize on a hundred percent of their breakpoints won in the second round.
Babos/ Buryachok had commenced the set and benefitted from an early break to reel off three straight games initially in the set. Furthermore, they smashed four consecutive aces to bag their last service game in the seventh game
and restricted their adversaries to only two games during the entire set.
Out of the forty one points they bagged a total of twenty seven points in the second round and sealed their victory with almost twice as many total set points as their adversaries to secure a spot in the semi final of the event.
