Baby's and dog food????

my lil boy is 11m old and he love geting in the dog food how can i get him 2 stop

you cant teach him he is too young and curious about everything! i would say place the food or dog somewhere else bcuz my childs health is more important.

try giving your dog only what he needs (i dont do that either) but it may help in this situation

Dog food is not going to hurt him.  Be consistent in correcting him EVERY time he nears the dog food.  It will take some time but he will get the message.  It is not fair to punish the dog and make him be outside or change his routine because your son is growing and getting more curious.

My son also loves dog food and playing in the water bowl.  So the dog eats at night and if he needs a drink of water during the day, the lid for the toilet is up and I try to remember to dry the seat before I sit down.  However a wet bum is a lot easier to clean up than my entire kitchen floor covered in water and a soaked baby trailing the water into the living room!  Even better is my son can pick up the water bowl and walk (aka stagger) with it so it has the potential to be dumped on the furniture and electronics now!

Of course drinking from the toilet only works for bigger dogs.  

Keeping baby and dog separate can work too.  Don't do the food outside as it attracts other animals.  I'm dealing with this with my cats, I now have all the neighbourhood cats coming over to eat and the squirrels!

If money is not an issue, you can get food and water bowls with automatic covers and a special collar so that when the dog gets close enough the covers automatically open.  Pick up a copy of Dog's Annual or any of the other major dog magazines available at your local pet store.  In the back will be the ads, skim through and see if anyone offers something that will work for you.

Eating the occasional piece of dog food is not going to harm your child.  The way I see it, you have 2 options available.

1--Move the dog food to a spot the baby can't get to but the dog can.  Then train the dog on where the food is now.

2--Redirect and teach the baby not to mess with the dog food.  This sounds harder to do than the first, but an 11 month old should be able to understand a firm no.  Then move the baby away and give him/her something else to play with.
