Baby Mix to be given a run before the Cheltenham Festival
Baby Mix is likely to make another outing on the racecourse ahead of the Cheltenham Festival.
His trainer, Tom George came up with the idea after Baby Mix’s poor performance in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial last Saturday.
The French bred made a fantastic British hurdling debut last month, when he grabbed the top slot in the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial (Juvenile Hurdle).
The four-year-old outclassed the 2 to 7 betting favourite, Hinterland by seven lengths. However, despite being a joint favourite in Saturday’s meeting, he performed below-par.
He completed the order of finish, after putting up a poor show, he has been pushed out to the betting odds of 20 to 1.
Baby Mix’s next assignment is in Leopardstown, where he is set to take part in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdl, to be held in February this year.
George expressed slight disappointment over the result, and is planning to give his trainee another run for better preparations for the Cheltenham Festival.
"He has been checked over by the vet this morning and everything appears to be normal. It is highly likely we will give him a run between now and the festival," he told his website.
While Baby Mix’s performance was a huge disappointment for George, Module made him happy to some extent. The five-year-old registered a classy victory in his first British start, making a huge impact.
He topped the chart by 3 ¾ lengths, with Art Professor and Hinterland finishing second and third, respectively.
George’s another trainee, Sivola De Sivola also made a fine impression by ending up at the fourth position.
The trainer was happy with Sivola De Sivola’s decent show, and although the connections are yet to make any decision about Module, the six-year-old has festival target in place.
"The highlight was Module providing owner Simon Clarke with his first ever Cheltenham winner in the class 2 handicap hurdle. No future plans have been made for him at this stage.  Sivola De Sivola also ran well in this race, finishing a staying-on
fourth.  His target will be the Pertemps Final at the festival back over his preferred trip of three miles," shared the trainer.
