  1. Congrats on the baby girl!  I have 2 daughters...ages 3 yrs. old and 2 months old and with our first daughter we didn't have a lot of money to spend on everything matching either so I just kind of did my own theme.  On the walls I bought some cheap acrylic paint in the small tubes and just did a flower border around her room right in the middle of the walls.  I had registered for the Tiddliwinks Princess Bear stuff at Target for her cribbing and such and we got most of that stuff from baby showers and the good thing is that the colors were pink, green, purple, and yellow, so basically you could mix and match.  I would say as long as the baby has a comfortable crib/bassinet, then she won't care what her room colors are!  Now, when she gets older is when it will be fun, she can pick out what she wants her room to look like!  Good luck and congrats.  (Sorry I didn't give much advice on themes, just wanted to say you don't have to spend a lot, just do simple neutral things)

  2. If I were you I would go buy those huge wall decals that you stick on your wall.  Some of them are neutral and earthy.  You can find them at Ikea and prob any other craft store.  Also, I got my nursery theme from Wal-Mart, they have some good all in one themes for decent prices.

  3. well me and my husband are renting our home so we cant paint :( But what I did was go to the craft store and get wooden letters, paint them pink and purple and hang them up with pink and purple ribbon. Spelled out her name and it made a cute wall decoration. All together i spent only 15 dollars on it.

  4. Some people paint the top half of the room a color (pink/purple) and leave the rest white.  You can also put up trim to seperate the colors.  Then, it's all in the accessories, you can go to a craft store and get letters spelling your childs name for cheap ($1 each or less) and paint those to match your theme.  You can tack them to the wall as is or use a ribbon to add a little extra frill.  I think lambs, bunnies, and just a classic pink/white, pink/green, or pink/brown colored scheme would go nicely.

  5. yay! I can share the nursery stuff i plan to get for my little girl!!!! (if its a girl) :) http://www.babywhiz.com/6282.html

This particular nursery set comes with wall hangings and a valance which i believe ties it all together! They have other cute ones online also

  7. I have been to Mexico many times.  20+ years....I love those houses!!  So wonderful and pleasant and homey.  They give me feeling of such peace.  Can you paint the walls to a color you like?  If not, choose your colors you want for your baby girl.  The walls don't have to be painted or have designs on the walls....Designs can make a room very busy...If you just get things ready and coordinate 2 or 3 colors you want....it will be very beautiful.  I would keep the colors pastel and very soothing for the precious baby girl to come.  It would be really nice if you can get a Rocking Chair to put in the room so you and your baby can spend your quiet time.  God Bless!!!!!  Don't worry about doing it yourself.  YOU can do it......and it will be beautiful.

  8. One thing you can do is buy baby comfortors that match your theme and hang them on the wall as if they were posters.  I did this with my first because I was in an apartment that wouldnt allow me to paint.  It worked out really well....And if you stay where you are then in a few years when your litttle girl develops her own sence of what she likes its not too hard to take them down and let her pick something for her room.

  9. You could add layers with simple wainscotting panels, or using a fence panel from the ground to about 1/3 the way up.  We used a fence (painted white) in my daughter's room with a garden / chic them.  The walls were a light lavender with a pearl sheen.  We had purple hydrangeas and white furniture in her room.  I also found some shutters and an old window at a garage sale and made a fake picture window with a little shelf underneath (also painted white).  Her comforter had butterflies and flowers in soft pastel colors on a white background.  I also made her curtains out of sheets (just sewed a pocket accross the top for the pole to slide through). It looked like a butterfly garden. So sweet, yet no too babyish.  I bought our materials at Walmart, ebay, and garage sales and spent about $100-$150.
