  1. keep the dad away i think because it will kill them and you will be sorry

  2. Hi there,

I sounds like your baby just has some dried food stuck to his beak. At 16 and 21 days old they are old enough to be handled (I handle my babies from about 10 days old to get them used to people, and even newly hatched if I need to without any ill effects).

A cotton bud with some warm water should loosen the food so you can remove it.

A male bird who attacks his young should not be used for breeding again. Males usually help the hen with the raising, and although the hen can do it by herself it is very taxing on her. She shouldn't be allowed to breed again for at least 6 months to allow her to get her condition back.

Males will sometimes attack their babies because they want to mate again, but the hen is not interested because her energies are with her young, so the male gets rid of the problem standing between him and his urge to mate again.

After your chicks have weaned (eating themselves) it *should* be fine to put the male back in again, but I think you would be better to leave the chicks with the hen and the male seperate to avoid her breeding again too soon, and to ensure the chicks safety.

After the chicks have weaned (around 5 - 8 weeks...it can vary quite a bit chick to chick) they will be on the same sort of diet as your adults. Fresh water, pellets, seed, fresh fruit and veg and cuttlebone / mineral suppliments.

Be sure that the hen has a complete and varied diet to replace all the good stuff she lost raising her babies.

  3. Hi,

The brown crust could be food just try picking it off or get some cotton wool etc to wash it off.

You need to remove the chicks at four weeks old, you can handle the chicks when they get feathered up.

Just feed them normal budgie seed and they don't need any bedding just a cage with food, water and perches, and a millet spray in the cage.
