Question:

Baby Pueblan Milksnake?

I got an unsexed pueblan milk snake bout a month ago and it's not my 1st snake, but actually my 1st time experience with babies ^^

Ok it successfully ate 2 pinkies last week but it doesn't wanna eat now, kinda wonder why. It really likes to soak in the water dish and no mites found. My cali king is an albino so his opaque eyes look different than a normal one, so is this baby milksnake bout to shed in the picture? I also post the picture of its uneaten food, is it too big for him? Last week i gave 2 smaller pinkies and it took them. Thanks a lot ^^

  1. It is about to shed. The eyes are clouding as the most obvious sign. It is normal while snakes shed for them to not eat, don't force it. After it sheds it will go back to normal and start eating again.

  2. It's definitely about to shed. One thing I noticed, however, is I don't think that's a pure Pueblan milksnake. It's probably mixed with another subspecies. I have several different subspecies of milks, including Pueblans which I breed. The colored bands on Pueblans tend to be pretty close in thickness. Yours has much thicker red bands than the white or black bands. Also, Pueblans have a white crescent, or half moon, on their nose, which I'm not seeing in your pics. Here's a picture of a true Pueblan:

Yours looks like it has some Mexican or Sinaloan in it, or another subspecies. Of course, this has nothing to do with its care or feeding. And as for the food, I wouldn't give it anything bigger than the thickest part of its body.
