Baby Run to contest through the season after recovering from a minor leg injury
Baby Run, the twelve-year-old French bred of Baby Turk, out of Run For Laborie, is owned and trained by Nigel Twiston Davies. The gelding has already missed the entire racing season of 2007 and 2008, thus being injured is nothing novel for Baby Run,
owing to yet another injury, though minor, the twelve-year-old is bound to miss on the current races.
"It's a minor leg injury and he's had bad legs all his life. He'll run in 2012 and we'll be looking at something like the Becher."
Baby Run raced five times during the 2011 season, which he started off with a victory in the Wilmot-Smith Memorial Cup Hunters’ Chase on 5th February, 2011 at Wetherby, which was raced over three miles and a furlong. On a field
of eleven, Baby Run positioned Jonjo O’Neill trained, Breaking Silence, second and the third to finish after the winner was, Offshore Account, under training Mrs. T L Bailey.
Baby Run was the 11 to 8 favourite for the race.
On 19th February, he won the Bet Totepool At Totesport.Com Walrus Hunters’ Chase at Haydock, where Baby Run was sent as a 8 to 13 favourite, which was over three miles. On a field of five, Halcon Genelardais trained by Alan
King was second while Mrs. McCain trained Idle Talk, finished third.
Baby Run won the Class 2, John Smith’s Fox Hunters’ on 7th April, 2011 at Aintree which was raced over a distance of two miles and five and a half furlongs. Baby Run, the 3 to 1 favourite of the race, led by just half a length,
and was instantly followed by W P Mullins’s under charge, Boxer Georg. Finishing the race third was Offshore Account under training Mrs. Bailey.
The last race in which Baby Run took part was the Grade 3, Bet365 Gold Cup Chase Handicap on 23rd April, 2011 at Sandown, over three miles and five and a half furlongs with twenty-four fences. Baby Run who was entered as the
6 to 1 favourite for the race finished third while the first one through the wire was Ferdy Murphy conditioned, Poker De Sivola, who led by a margin of 2 ¼ lengths.
Concluding the race as the runner up was Faasel trained by David Pipe.
"He'll be fine for next season," the trainer said on Saturday. "We could've carried on and ran him this season, but the boys can't ride him in the Foxhunter so he'll have a break and go for the National next season.”
