  1. --At BBQs, I must have at least a hot dog, brats worth, or hamburger on the grill. Something about that grilled flavor (or whatever meats you want, but don't forget to have something for the vegetarians also).

--Various chip/dips, fruit platter, veggie platter, maybe even cheese & crackers

--Anyway, we just had an office baby shower, and one of my co-workers brought in a really good dessert.  It was soooo good, I took some home.  Here's the recipe she emailed me:

Here's the recipe. Paula Deen from the Food Network calls them Ooey Gooey Butter cake. They are delicious and VERY easy to make.  Here goes:

    Cake:

    1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix

    1 egg

    8 tablespoons butter, melted

    Filling:

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened

    2 eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla

    8 tablespoons butter, melted

    1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan.

To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.

    Hope you enjoy!

--At the same shower, another co-worker brought in a delicious pasta salad.  I thought it was nice since you could take it and not really have to worry about it spoiling because it didn't have mayo in it.  I didn't get the recipe so I can't tell you how much of a particular ingredient was used, but here's what was in it: hidden valley ranch mix, corkscrew pasta (cooked), peas, carots, cherry tomatoes, italian dressing  (all tossed together in the same bowl).

--good luck and hope that helps.

  2. try some little smoky sausages simmered in honey bbq sauce, pasta salad, bush's baked beans with hamburger meat in it, corn on the cob wrapped in foil with butter in it on the grill, tossed salad, and wings. how does that sound?

  3. make an orzo salad, with orzo, italian dressing, cut up black olives, diced peppers (red, yellow green), diced onion and diced tomatoes. delicious. light food for summer and great with bbq.

i like bean dips and chips too. lots of fresh fruit (good for apps) and veggies. cheese and crackers (app). wine. beer. water.

and then of course meat :)
