Question:

Baby at 5 months? To Sit or To Stand?

My daughter doesn't seem to enjoy sitting all that much. She can sit on her own without support for a little while, but she would rather be standing instead. She loves it when I hold her and have her standing, she'll laugh and giggle at everything. I say it's partly my fault for having her on her feet way too often, but she gives me this look like she is so ready to start walking already. Her brother was walking at 9 months I wonder if it would be possible for a child to walker sooner than that? Just curious as to what your babies were doing at this age.

  1. Our daughter has ALWAYS loved to stand up... since she was, like, 6 weeks old. (While supported, of course!)

I think some babies just enjoy standing.

Our daughter did eventually start sitting unsupported (at 6 months), and is now quite good at it -- we even went on a plane ride yesterday and she sat, buckled in like a grown-up, in the center seat between Mommy & Daddy.

Don't worry about "having her on her feet way too often." If she likes to stand, and she has the leg strength/balance, why not encourage her?

  2. It's very unlikely for a baby to walk sooner than 9 months (that's pretty astounding!), they just don't have the muscle tone yet, nor the coordination.  They do love pulling themselves up and walking around the coffee table while holding onto it, though, don't they!!?  It's much more fun than just sitting.

  3. Dynamic baby use to try walking....but be careful supporting while making it.  Enjoy !!

  4. My 7 y.o walked when she was 7 months old. We put her down while she was standing up and she just took off. Then didn't stop. She was sitting at 4 months and crawling at 5.5 months.

    Its possible!

  5. my boyfriend has an aunt who's mom swears was walking at 7 months... my baby was happy to lie on the floor or to have me hold her and stand, at that age

  6. My MIL says my hubby walked at seven months.
