every time I feed my 5 month old, she bashes the bottle continuously with her arm and hand...she does it EVERY time! I try pinning her arm down when she is trying to go to sleep but she wont allow it! she whacks it out of my hand constantly....she cannot quite manage to hold it herself..almost but not quite...has anyone else got this sort of bashy baby? My first was so docile it is surprising.

  1. my 6th month old will do this every now and then, i take this as a sign of enjoying and wanting the food faster.... she is observing her surrounding and learning to control her movements. let her do it!

  2. My little guy does this to my breast.  It's really funny.  But at least in my case, he can't knock the breast down, though he does often pull it out of his own mouth and then get very frustrated with it.

  3. lol my daughter is coming upto 6months and she does the same....I always think she is trying to help me feed her ...i sometimes wish she would stop and just drink but she got a mind of her own lol! she likes to push it away and then grab it bk too!

  4. my daughter is 6 months and does this all the time, i have to hold the bottle really tight as a few times she has whacked it to the floor!a few days ago i changed her to bigger teats and she has more or less stopped doing it, although she will do it when shes trying to hold the bottle!

  5. Just let her do it and hold onto the bottle firmly. Don't try and pin her down, she's not doing anything wrong.

  6. Yes this is totally normal.  If she was being breastfed, she would naturally "paw" at the breast to stimulate milk.  It may be that if she'd hitting the bottle excessively that she is getting frustrated that the milk isn't coming out fast enough.  Try a larger teat size.

My daughter does this, and sometimes it's a case of her saying "I'll take it if I HAVE to, but I'd rather have my solids now!"  Sometimes she just wants the milk faster.  I've tried pinning her arm down too, but it doesn't work very well, does it?

  7. At 5 months my son used to do this as well, except I was breastfeeding, so he just used to hit and kick ME constantly while he was feeding!

I think part of it was frustration at the speed of the flow, because by then he was having a few bottles a day as well and I think he had got used to the faster flow.

Have you thought about moving up to the next stage teat? It might be that she is frustrated with the flow and wants it quicker!

  8. yes my baby girl did that often. she is almost 1 now but she still does it sometimes. she just finds it interesting and wants to try to hold it for herself. i just grab onto it tightly so she can't drop it and then eventually take it from her and find something else for her to play with
